Looks nice. There seems to be a bug however. If I click and drag to rotate the pano, then release outside the player area the pano starts to spin on its own. Clicking in the player again doesn't deactivate it nor does clicking and dragging. Eventually the pano starts spinning uncontrollably. Ever seen this occur before?

If this were not an issue I would definitely buy this tool-set.

Hi Dennis I guess.
Very cool set of files.
I just purchased and would LOVE to know if we are able to set up a rotating compass outside the pano viewer.
ie. on page I would like to embed the pano and next to it have a map with compass that spins with the orientation of the pano being viewed...Is this scriptable yet?

I'm fairly certain we will be purchasing in the next few days. Can't tell you how much I wish this was available back in '98 when we used a 360 camera, scanned the film and used software to generate the pano for the java applet to display. Ah, those were the Advil days.

Thank you so very much for producing this.

cheers,

Well Denis,

Good news you gave me! ;)

About partial pano. I'm not talking about cylindrical panos, this one is easy! Let's have the images do the talking:
http://www.csvd.ro/panoblog/?p=67
In this post, take a look at the VRs. Most of them are partial, but not cylindrical. Viewing them with QT, is fine... but viewing them with DevalVR, you can see that they are incomplete. Of course, I could limit the movement in DevalVR, but I was using the same source (mov file) to display the panorama in the 2 viewers. Now, since I want to include your player as a viewer for my panos, I need to know how can I restrain the movement in this case of partial panos.
I allready have an ideea about this, since I could use the hotspotsAPI, I could ask for the pan, tilt, and zoom values and check against my limits, and this way I guess I could restrain the movement.

About writing plugins, I guess I will try something after I finish a project in Flex2. I'm learning it and in the same time I'm trying to build a website entierly in Flex. So after that, I guess I will have some experience with AS3... ;)
BTW, Flash CS3?! :D

About suggestions:
1. This is possible using hotspot - I will make an example in a week.
2. You can use disableTilt option. Then fix window size and minimal zoom, change top and bottom to empty images - this is a way to create cylindrical panoramas. :)
3. I have a prototype. ;) Will be accessible later.
4. Yes. It's logical next step. I'm working on it: http://flashpanoramas.com/player/features (see "in development" list).
5. Yes.
5.1. It's easy to create external plugin without interaction with panorama like mp3 player (you can find a source in the Player package). In the example above I'm loading YouTube player into the panorama to play video. This shows that any Flash site or application can be a plugin to extend the panorama functionality. ;)
5.2. Use "controller" feature ( http://flashpanoramas.com/player/hotspotsAPI ) of Hotspots plugin to create plugins which have simple interaction with panorama player (useful to create interactive maps for virtual tours).
5.3. Full panorama control (to create any plugin) is possible only in Actionscript 3 and requires full integration of the player's architecture into your application. Some sort of component needed. I have an idea to make such a component for Flash CS3 (next version of the Flash authoring tool) :)

Denis, since you said that I may try to turn this blog into a forum, but I can't create new posts because I don't have an user on your blog admin, I will post my thoughts where I could find some space to publish... ;)

So, here's some new suggestions for your player:
- black and white pano preview, while loading. Like the preview track on QTVR movies, or like the b/w preview in PANO2QTVR flash viewer.
- partial pano support. Meaning that if I have a panorama that does not cover a full sphere, I should be able to limit the pan/tilt motion, to "hide" the missing part of the pano.
- not sure about this, so I am just asking.... Is is possible to be made in flash a mov file interpreter, so your flash viewer could support qtvr mov files?
- some sort of encryption, or some way to protect the panorama from being stolen?
- the possibility of adding objects into panorama, but with distortion. For example, I could stick a painting on a clean wall, and look like it was there in the moment of photo shooting ;)
- last but not least... what if I would want to write new plugins for your viewer, to extend it's functionality? Is it possible? What would I need to know, on the technical point of view?

See ya! ;)

great stuff, Denis!

I recommend you look at from some really neat XML specs. And also for the stripes file format which make the VR loading more responsive!

thanks a lot!
