On June 1st there was a huge fire in the New York streets part of their backlot. The Universal backlot is used often by many movies, TV shows and commercials. It's the most active backlot in Los Angeles. I worked on a TV series there a few years ago and shot about 6 panos while working on the show. It took a while to find them and re stitch them, using PTGui the stitching is so much better than Stitcher which I was using at the time. So check them out since all of the locations don't exist anymore, but the area will be rebuilt.

Robert,

It is a bit dumbfounding to think all that is gone so easily. But thanks to your work it "virtually" still exists. Thanks for sharing.

Yes it is amazing. These are built as permanent/temporary sets. Most backlots are built entirely of wood but the newer backlot sets are built mostly of steel frames with wood facades. Universal was a little of both with a lot of steel and some wood. At Paramount their backlot is built of almost all steel. This is the result of a fire in the 1980's that nearly destroyed the backlot and some stages close by. Paramount is in Hollywood and the stages and backlot sets are built side by side, very close, so if there is a huge fire they could loose stages as well as the outside sets.
