Hope that some coder get into this issue

hi,
I coded a snow plugin here (http://www.36one.net/chalet/index.html) a year or so ago.
If you're interested in, I can post it here (for free).
I spent some time to have a working code that doesn't melt the user's CPU. If some of you have developped similar plugins, I would be interested in sharing the insights of performances.

wow, that's a great plugin...since I'm in Texas, a rain version would be very useful. Also, I really liked your "book" as well. Is this something you did also?

Hi nidrig !!
Your work is always exelent !!
But today checking out your example with the chalet, I have noticed that the snow is not in a 3d grid, because when you pan the snow also pans...It's not so much visible, but once you see it then you feel it's not very real...
I also like so much the contact form integrated directly in the project...
Is very difficult to add this functionality ?

You're right about the snow not being in a 3d grid. I'll see if I can fix it easily.
About the contact form, it's easy to include within a project. I bought a neat one from http://flashden.net and load it as a spot.

The book integration in AS3 with FPP is quite some work. Because all descent flipping books are in as2. Thus I had to make the two of them (fpp and book) to communicate properly.
Or it's me complicating things; I remember an example of a flipping book without all the painful coding part I went through.

It would be great to have the snow & rain in a 3d grid ... I can assume that making the rain version would be just question of changing one image ( the particle it self) ... this would be great !!!
This morning I bought one from activeden....I hope it will works, is this one (http://activeden.net/item/contact-form-email-form-as2-as3-php/3130)
I'll try to implent it later..

It would be awsome if you would not mind sharing your plug-in for the snow :)
Thanks

Here is the snowStorm plugin.
I'll try to post a rain fall version, but I promise no deadline ;)
I wasn't able to solve the 3d grid issue in the time frame I allocated for this plugin. Feel free to extend and modify the plugin as you wish!
Usage:
<spot id="snow" linked="your pano" static="1" refreshRate="10" salign="LT" align="LT" url="snowStorm.swf" />

I also think that would be great to have the snow & rain in the pano with the possibility to choose the visibility.
I hope someone make and share.

How about making a weather plugin that synchronizes with one's current local weather conditions?
... like a clock showing the actual local time... :)

Hi all!
Just want to tell you I saw a wonderful panorama with snow (does it snow in Bangkok?;) Not made with FPP I think...

The original "Snow Plugin Demonstration" is done by the developer of the other famous Panorama Player. There is nothing new on the presentation also the sound is the same. Here the original (http://krpano.com/108beta/xmas.html) posted one year ago.

Can someone translate or transform this plugin as to be used with FPP ?
It's very realistic. :eek:
:) Thanks in advance

Maibe trying to make what was told, would be too much :

But what would be extremly usable would be to have a simple pluguin where you can say :
<atmospherix>
wheater state= snow (or rain also)
amount= 1000
speed= 250
size of floks= 20
......
random thunderbolds= 1
</atmospherix>
Belonging to a 3d grid for me would be defenitly important to give much realism. here we can see an example from dennis (http://flashpanoramas.com/blog/2006/12/) long time ago
Hope it can inspire some developer ;)

Thank you! I didn't know Denis built such a feature already!
I'll have a look and improve the plugin.

You didn't think KRPano just invented the snow plugin out of thin air... do you? :)
Most things found in KRP, were first done in FPP. Nothing wrong about that at all... once the wheel was invented, more than one inventor was bound to use it. But credit should go where it belongs. I had seen this snow plugin by Denis a loong time ago... long before I purchased FPP ... and had forgotten all about it (ABBA reminded me).

Yes !!
Dennis did it 3 years ago (12/06) !!
FPP is the best ever done pano engine, and I'm sure the next version will impress us too much....also all other pano engine competitors....
We are rolling with the best wheel you can find in the market, and I hope is gonna get much better, much lighter, and more features
But we have to assume that the pluguin we are talking about is very well done for the Krpano....
Hope soon we will have a even better one for FPP

Yes, it is well done in KRP... but we have to ask ourselves: Why is KRP as good as it is (even with it's flaws) ?
The answer is simple: Because it is walking in the footsteps of FPP.

I wouldn't change the aim of the post that I opened myself...
But tuddy, walking in the footsteps of FPP, doesn't mean that FPP is the best forever, that would be a mistake....FPP have to be renewed soon, otherwise it will be eatten by others...
A simple and clear example :
altavista : 1995
google : 1998 (even thay where working BackRub since 1995)
what is best the first or the one who knows how to improve what's already done??
I just hope full live for FPP

Yepp. Without Tommys Plug Ins and the good community FPP wldnīt be my first choice. The KRP developer is doing a good job I hope (and I am sure) that Dennis will push FPP to a new level with the upcoming version btw. I cld include some features that KRP already have.

This topic getting more and more off topic.
but still I like to know what you need what is already in krpano?
multirez?, projections?, protection?
My guess ;) it will all be there..

The projections (little planet) was nice watching it the first time but mean while i canīt see it anymore. Multires is a nice to have. Protection is the important thing to me.

After after pulling my hair out since 24 hours (I have a lot of ;) ), I sadly cannot produce a usable plugin.
I was able to have almost the same effect Denis had in his version. Yet, he wrote his snow plugin for the 2006 version of the player. Plus, being the master of the player, he directly called functions unknown to the end user.
Here is the workable version I came to. The main problem, except some strange display at the very beginning, is that it is way to sloooooow.
I don't have time to work further on it at the moment. I leave the code here, if some of you feel inspired or have secret knowledge about FPP API!
BTW, call the plugin as an external plugin: layer_xx = snowFlakeFpp.swf

I've tried and it's working nicer, but as you say it makes the movement slower...
Thanks so much we can already make nice christmas cards with FPP

Trausti, You know the love I have for FPP, but that simply isn't fair to Klaus' work with KRP. If you look into KRP's and Klaus' history you will see that he is a brilliant and original programmer in his own right. Denis and Klaus are aware of each other's work as well as that of others. But both have created great players with unique and original features, some of which each will copy from the other with succeeding versions.
Denis' and Nidrig's snowflake efforts are worthy but not at all the same as what is done in KRP. 2D vs 3D. the 3D particle effect is built right into the KRP engine. And it isn't "original." Pure Player had something even better (http://www.immervision.com/en/multimedia/multimedia_products/Tools/sfx_demo//sfx_demo.html) years ago. (Press the snowflake button and notice how the flakes vary in speed and size giving a more realistic sense of depth.) This was only made available for their Java player. Just another example of why a potentially brilliant player never really went anywhere.

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing but respect for Klaus work, but this is not the "right" place to say that out loud - too often :)
The single most irritating issue I have with KRP, is the loading meter... it behaves like a hamster on steroids running in it's work-out wheel.
But apart from that... I say no more.
It is quite normal, expected and acceptable that features are imitated/copied between different players... some will be better than the original, other will lack behind... but maybe surpass with later re-builds.
All a part of the playground.
