View Full Version : My best pano of 2007

This was done with a pole down low using a Canon 5D and Nikkor 10.5mm lens.
Most of my shots are done using a pole and pointing it up, down or sideways.
This gives me a lot of flexibility to get shots that would often be impossible any other way.

Here are a few others, this one you can see my pole in action.

One of those out the window shots.

And not to forget the high in the air shot.

Very nice Cameleer,

I've viewed a lot of your panoramas and it makes the shot so much more interesting if the viewing position isn't the regular eye level height. I've not tried using a pole yet but just seeing what it can do (out the window shots) it's well worth adding to the photographers equipment collection (if you can carry any more!).

Did you also take the panoramas on what appears to be some sort of oil rig with birds and seals paying a visit?

Hi Andrew,
Yes those where some panos that I did offshore while working the night shift.

That pole that I use only weighs around 2 pounds, extends from under 4 feet to about 17 feet. I find it far easier to carry around than a tripod and it also makes a good walking stick. I don’t know of any other easy ways to take photos for a pano like the one below.

I would be lost without my pole,

Roger,

I don't envy your submitting to the WorldWidePanorama event. How do you pick just one best pano of 2007 when you have such a treasure trove of really great work. Well done my friend. Always great to see.

The usefulness of your "walking stick" is perfectly clear in the gold room picture. Obviously people are restricted access to the gold room, and have to view it from outside the entrance. I was at first wondering why you (Cameleer) were outside the room, and who was inside taking the pictures.... until I saw the camera on the end of the pole in the mirror. I have to have one of those poles... or have one made for me.

It makes all the difference in crowded shots and where cars or other things would block free view.

Roger,

Wow! Great work!

What pole are you using?

I have a agnos carbon stacker that works for the High stuff but would not be good for the others.

Please send a link if you can buy it online.

Thanks Mike

Here’s an example of me using the pole. Walking down the road I see a very plush camel cart, I stick my pole in the cart, spin it around taking 4 shots and then another 4 shots just incase something goes wrong with the first 4.
In 10 seconds I’m done and heading down the road looking for something else to shoot.

Here’s another pole out the window pano that I just put together, on these I never know what the camera will see as I can’t see the same view as it can.

I have been known to use a tripod form time to time.

You are amazing! So how many shots with the 5d to capture all that?

So do you use any type of head on the monopod? Or just strap the camera and go.

I assume just the camera on the stick?

Keep them coming!

This is an older pano where I’m using a Canon 20D and Sigma 8mm lens, you can see my camera and me in action. It’s very simple, handheld and just 4 shots around.
http://www.camelphotos.com/india2/pushkar2.html

And this is a view from the other direction. Also handheld with only 4 shots.

Maybe I should mention that I was holding a pole with my camera on the end of it, no thick mirrors or wires, but still handheld! Here are some pictures on my homemade pano head and some of the things that I can do with it.
