Default First Flash 11 panorama engine on display

The following link allows you to test our Flash 11 panorama engine. This is a first look, so don't expect anything fancy. You need to install the latest Flash version (11) which was released yesterday.

Fullscreen is available from the context menu, as is the "Profiler" where you can see the Frames Per Second and Mega bits used for the display of flash content in the browser you are using.

If you reboot your browser and have nothing there but the pano, you will be able to see that it only consumes a little over 1 MB of memory and 0-2% of CPU (may be higher on some machines).

Current version will download with a black screen, then it will take a while to decrypt... then finally display.

CTRL/SHIFT keys work for zoom, same does mouse wheel. Click/drag is the traditional way.

Comments and questions are welcome.

I have to say that panning in fullscreen mode is extremely smooth even on my 4 year old PC with 64-bit Windows 7 (FF and IE).

Thanks... without exaggerating, this is the smoothest panorama player ever made. It is great to see how far Flash has come with this latest version.

Proggy made the player a few months back, and didn't have to make many changes for it to work once the first public release of F11 was out a couple of days ago.

Using FireFox 7.0.1 with a fairly capable machine:

Upon first loading pano, I get ~6.5 fps while panning.

If I toggle to fullscreen, it goes to 40fps while panning.

Then if I exit fullscreen, it stays nice and smooth (~40 fps).

Also, some noticeable screen tearing while panning around in full screen.

Otherwise, looks great! Very smooth once full screen has been toggled.

Been away from this for a while. How can I get the FPP player version optimised for F11 please? Is this public yet?

Thanks

Regarding F11 issues:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/921/cpsid_92103.html

We can evolve the player, but not the hardware...

The F11 player is still in it's infancy, but this much is clear: It will not be a swap/replacement for the current F10 engine, as it was the case for F9-F10 versions of FPP. The F11 engine is a completely different framework and doesn't adhere to the same standards as the previous versions of FPP did. Flash has evolved, and the evolution is beyond what can be patched and fixed.

When ready in a (hopefully) short time, I will publish a free version of the F11 player, where people can drop pano images into it, and out comes a simple pano without any navigation controls or other features. Free... not a commercial one, so no extra features will be included. Hobbyists who need something simple, will be able to get what they need: Displaying a pano... and that is what the idea is about. When the full commercial version comes out, it will have "everything you ever dreamed of"... There will be a demo version as well, where people can test it out extensively. Lots of things to be done, but little/no time on my hands to describe things relating to it now.
