Default Image and XML "Encryption" Example

The image and xml encrypter is FAR from finished, and will most likely be part of the forthcoming GUI, since it needs a standalone application to create the "encrypted" files, but here is a early preview:

http://flashpanos.com/flashpanos_fil...ephyr/enc.html

I am particularly interested to hear from anyone who has a REALLY slow machine, since the "decryption" slows down the loading process, and the goal is to make sure that even the slowest machine can handle it.

Here's the xml file, if you'd like to see what it looks like:
http://flashpanos.com/flashpanos_fil...zephyr/enc.xml

And the images:

http://flashpanos.com/flashpanos_fil.../txt/enc_l.jpg
http://flashpanos.com/flashpanos_fil.../txt/enc_r.jpg
http://flashpanos.com/flashpanos_fil.../txt/enc_b.jpg
http://flashpanos.com/flashpanos_fil.../txt/enc_u.jpg
http://flashpanos.com/flashpanos_fil.../txt/enc_d.jpg

Enjoy, and please give me any feedback. I want this to be absolutely ROCK solid by the time of release.

Oh, and when this is finished it will "encrypt" any sort of panorama file that FPP supports, most specifically, QTVRs, so this isn't a cube only feature....

Dennis, you are evil... :-P Don't open that can of worms!

Today, Zephyr is my hero. I'll try it out on my wife's long-in-the-tooth iBook tonight. Anyone else?

Just for the record, it appears to work very fast here, and trying to pull the image from cache results in a no-go; also, trying to view the image in Safari is a no-go.

The puter I am testing it on is not in the category of "slow" (at least not when it comes to PC's ) but you sure made me feel as if I had sat down in front of a 286 puter from 1991 with a 9600 baud modem. Almost 5 minutes to decrypt it.

But it looks promising, and having seen what you guys can do, I am sure you will be able to tune it up to run like a Ferrari.

Does the encryption time vary in length according to the size of the source file(s)?

Hi everybody,

Thanks for posting those results, please keep posting. I am going to be try out some alternative "encryption" standards soon.

@DMCDigital: 466mhz G3, I'll say that's nice and slow! And it loaded up in what seemed like a "normal" amount of time?

@Tuddi: Holy Cow! was it really five minutes? And what are the stats on your machine? As to your question, the "decrypting" time does depend on file size, obviously the larger the file, the more work the computer has to do to "decrypt" it.

Also, one other item of note, is that currently I have loaderStreamed disabled since it takes so much more CPU power, and with the current "decryption" cpu drag, it is just not viable, however, I think I will be able to turn loaderStreamed back on with a new, optimized "encryption" method. In fact I think I may be able to get it so that the load speed difference isn't even perceptible....

Default 466 G3

Hey Z,

Load time was slightly longer ...not too bad...play back was not so smooth, but we were looking at load time right ?

playback is not so smooth on the 667 mhz g4 either....load time seemed acceptable to me though

Hi Dennis,

The playback should be unaffected by the "encryption". If the playback is being affected that would be a bug. Basically, once the files have been "decrypted" the "encrypted" copy will be automatically garbage collected by Flash. So there is no difference with playback, only the loading and processing into usable images is affected.

Here the specs on the puter I used:

From the time it started to show the download process (1%) until it finished, it took between 4:40 - 4:50

My connection is 2.5 mbps so that should not be a bottleneck.

Just tried on the laptop (single core Intel Centrino 1.6ghz ) and it was missing 13 seconds to have flat 5 minutes.
