Ok.... it may have been my router messing things up. I rebooted the router, tried on a 3rd puter and the download time was 2 minutes... quite a bit more than what it should be if it was only a pano this size being downloaded.

Tried it again on the main puter (after clearing out the Temporary Internet Files folder), after first confirming my download speed being optimal through my ISP's speed test service, and this time around it took 70 seconds to load.

In comparison, THIS pano took me 12 seconds to download, and it is considerably bigger than the encrypted one... I would assume.

So... my first download times of almost 5 minutes are NOT a valid measurement stick. Must have been the router on my end bottle-necking. But during optimal conditions, the download time is still long. If others are getting quick downloads, then it must be the internet nodes my connetion goes through that are slowing things down.

Ping results:

flashpanos.com ping at an average of 197ms
newspin360.net ping at an average of 146ms

not that big a difference...

Could you upload the same pano unencrypted, in order to see the difference in downloading times?

Hi Tuddi,

Here is something to gauge it by:

http://flashpanos.com/flashpanos_fil...ephyr/gui.html

Basically the same thing WITHOUT the "encryption".

There it went 22 seconds in the download.
Tested the encrypted version again, and it was 25 seconds.

Obviously there must be something on my end that is not running as it should (connection wise). This latest test convinces me that you actually HAVE the ferrari version ready 3 seconds in difference might just be a knot somewhere on the net, and have nothing to with the encryption.

What is the file size... just for comparing the download time with the other pano I compared with before (which is around 1.7mb in download)

Both thumbs up for your work on this one!

and same thumbs down for my ISP's "stable connection"... or maybe it's just my router that is tired and weary. It's been running 24/7 for the past year or so.

In any case, I disregard my initial tests as absolutely irrelevant, so should everyone else!

Good job!

Hi Tuddi,

Hey, good to hear! Sounds like the peruvian internet isn't all that ching?n!

That is actually quite impressive since the current "encryption" magnifies the size of the file by a bit: approximately 4/3 to be exact.

Not a ferrari yet.

Hi Zephyr,

Pentium Core 2 Duo @ 2.13Ghz with 2Gb Ram and a 8Mb ADSL connection about 8 seconds for both encrypted and "un-encrypted" version.

Laptop with Pentium M @ 1.7Ghz with 512Mb Ram and 8Mb ADSL, 9sec encrypted version, 6 seconds for "un-encrypted" version.

you have me drooling over this :P do you plan releasing this only with the GUI? No chance of releasing this as a stand alone app?

Hi Paulo: I am glad to hear it's working well. It's definitely going to be part of the GUI. It is immensely easier to produce the "encrypted" files when you have a "normal" system app to do it with. The process I had to use to "encrypt" those apps was positively arcane.

Hi everybody,

I have gotten the "encryption" working with loaderStreamed, and it is super-fast now! virtually no different than a normal file, and with QTVR (.mov) files. The only thing that I haven't quite got straightened out are equirectangulars and cylinders, but that's coming.

Here's the old one with loaderStreamed:

And a QTVR (image "borrowed" from Denis' example):

The mov comes through perfectly.

Hi Zephyr,
On my German Mac system (G5 Quad) with Safari I get this error with the Debug Flash Player 9.0 r115 for enc.html:

Code:
Error #2044: IOErrorEvent unverarbeitet. text=Error #2124: Die geladene Datei weist einen unbekannten Typ auf.
which means something like
Error #2044: IOErrorEvent not processed. text=Error #2124: Loaded file shows unknown Type.

If I dismiss this message everything runs fine and fast.

The encmov.html doesn't show this error, although it stops at 90% for around 12 sec.
